Oast in use during the 1940's

1980's conversion

Current refurbishment

In use from the 1890's to the 1960's, this rural oast house had been converted into a dwelling in the early 1980's. The client wanted to improve the general condition of the structure and to create a larger more efficient family home. A new single storey extension was added to the side using a specially design graceful curved steel & oak frame, creating a full height kitchen / family room opening out onto the lawns, rose garden and orchard. The existing structures were remodelled internally to provide stunning living spaces, whilst the external appearance was carefully remodelled to reflect the buildings past use and form, restoring its integrity. A subtle mix of traditional externally and modern internally, with the transitions between the two carefully and elegantly balanced.
