This building, situated in the centre of the Somerset market town of Wellington where I grew up, is unusual in as much as it was clearly originally for livestock use when built in the 17th Century, functioning as a linhay in the centre of the town, albeit set back behind the main South street. In my youth, long before university, and with keen interest I took it upon myself to survey the whole structure and analysise the results, to understand its original form and use. With a full condition report I made proposals for its conservation, along with a proposal for its conversion into a dwelling. The building is still in use as a storeroom and shop today.
